Joe Bond Sartain, Jr. – 1933-2014

Joe Bond Sartain, Jr., was a founding partner of Sartain Law Offices and began his private practice in 1959. His accomplished career as a trial practice and Workers’ Compensation attorney is the foundation of the firm’s recognition as one of the most respected private practice firms in Gainesville.

After graduating from Danielsville High School in 1949, Joe joined the U.S. Army with his cousins, serving during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952. He later attended Piedmont College and graduated from Georgia State University in 1956. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, and obtained his JD in 1958.

With admission to the State Bar of Georgia in 1957, he acquired over 45 years of extensive active trial practice in personal injury and Workers' Compensation law. Mr. Sartain acted as a past chairman of the Workers' Compensation Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and he chaired and served on numerous continuing legal education (CLE) seminars for the State Bar of Georgia. He served on Governors Carter, Busby, Harris, Miller and Barnes' study Committee on Workers' Compensation, serving as Chairman for two years. Recognized for his depth of knowledge in Workers’ Compensation law as well as his service in the field, Mr. Sartain was presented with the State Bar of Georgia Workers' Compensation Distinguished Service Award on October 7, 2004.

Mr. Sartain was a past president of the Northeastern Bar Association and a past Post Commander of the American Legion (1966-1967). Mr. Sartain was a member and previously served as Chairman of the Worker’s Compensation Section of the State Bar of Georgia. He was a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Gainesville-Northeastern Bar Association, and held a position on the Board of Directors of United Community Bank in Dahlonega, Georgia since 1998.

Exhibiting his love for writing, he authored the book Memories from the Cotton Patch to the Court House, published 2003. Mr. Sartain was known throughout the community for his monumental support for Veterans and the Salvation Army. He served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board for eight years, serving as Chairman for two years. Keeping close ties to his roots, he was a member of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church in Danielsville.

Mr. Sartain is survived by three sons and ten grandchildren.

Perry M. Sartain - Senior Partner

Perry Sartain joined Sartain Law Offices in 1985 as Senior Partner. Perry obtained a B.A. from the University of Georgia, and he is a graduate of the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. 

Admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1985, Perry specialized his practice in Personal Injury and Workers’ Compensation law. Initially, Perry specialized in Workers' Compensation litigation, representing insurers and self-insurers before the Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation and state courts throughout Georgia.  Shifting his focus to claimant work, Perry has over 25 years of experience representing employees who have been injured on the job.

An expert law practitioner in Workers’ Compensation, Perry has participated in a multitude of Workers’ Compensation seminars for ICLE in Georgia, and he has conducted numerous seminars for self-insured and insurance clients.
 
Perry is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Gainesville-Northeastern Bar Association, the Workers' Compensation Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and a member of the Workers’ Compensation Chairman’s Advisory Council. Perry is a former Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia for Workers’ Compensation (SAAG), and he holds an AV rating with Martindale-Hubbel. His court admissions include the Northern and Middle Georgia United States District Courts, Georgia Court of Appeals, and Georgia Supreme Court.

Perry is married to Stephanie Sartain, and they have three children. Dedicated to family, Perry and Stephanie are actively engaged in their children’s activities. Perry has served as coach and assistant coach for Hall County Recreational League soccer and baseball, and he has served as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 16 through Gainesville First United Methodist Church. Perry served as legal advisor of the Mount Vernon Elementary Charter School Board for a two year term and is currently counsel for the Hall County Civil Service Board.

Phillip Bond Sartain - Retired

Phillip Bond Sartain was a partner with Sartain Law Offices from 1986 until his retirement in 2016. He is a graduate of Emory University, and the University of Georgia School of Law.

Phillip was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1986, and he specialized in Workers’ Compensation and Social Security Disability law. Early in his career, Phillip practiced in the defense of Workers' Compensation claims on behalf of Georgia employers. Later in his career, he represented claimants.  Phillip spent 20 years helping claimants in workers' compensation and more than 25 years praticing Social Security Disability.

Phillip is a retired member of the State Bar of Georgia, Gainesville-Northeastern Bar Association, the Workers' Compensation Section of the Section of the State Bar of Georgia.  His court admissions included the Northern and Middle Georgia United States District Courts.

With a passion for community, Phillip actively served Hall County through his involvement with numerous charitable and civic organizations, including the Red Cross, the Gainesville Symphony, United Way, the Boys & Girls Club of Hall County, the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, the Arts Council (past President), and as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 2003 Flatwater Canoe/Kayak World Championships held on Lake Lanier.

Phillip is married to Lydia J. Sartain, former District Attorney for Hall and Dawson Counties, and they have three daughters.

 

Larry O. Sartain - Partner

Larry Sartain joined Sartain Law Offices in 1994 as an associate partner. He has been a partner with the firm since 1998. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia and John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1994, Larry specializes in Workers’ Compensation law. Formerly focused on the defense of Workers' Compensation claims for insurers and self-insurers, Larry’s practice now primarily represents injured employees. Accustomed to representing clients who have sustained severe and/or disabling injuries, Larry also represents Claimants applying for Social Security Disability Benefits.

Larry is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Gainesville-Northeastern Bar Association, the Workers' Compensation Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and a former Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia for Workers’ Compensation (SAAG). His court admissions include the Northern and Middle Georgia United States District Courts.

Jennifer Jarvis- Associate

Jennifer Jarvis

Jennifer Jarvis, a Gainesville native and graduate of Gainesville High School, joined Sartain Law Offices as an associate in 2013. Dedicated and committed to high quality advocacy, Ms. Jarvis focuses her practice on Workers' Compensation, children's Social Security Disability law, litigation, and appellate practice.

Prior to joining Sartain Law Offices, Ms. Jarvis obtained a B.S. from the University of Georgia and an M.S. from Auburn University. After teaching upper level biology and chemistry for ten years, she attended Georgia State University College of Law. During her time there, she served as an articles editor for Law Review and competed nationally on Moot Court, graduating summa cum laude.

Ms. Jarvis is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Gainesville-Northeastern Bar Association. Her court admissions include the Northern and Middle Georgia United States District Courts, Georgia Court of Appeals, and Georgia Supreme Court.

Ms. Jarvis is also an active participant and volunteer in the local equestrian community. She is married to Darick Jarvis, an enterprise architect, and they have one daughter.
